Well Summer has finally come, and as we gather our beach bags to hit the beach, or that weekender bag to enjoy a long weekend - we want to have the least amount of "skincare and makeup luggage" as possible. So why not optimize your routine? Most of the "products" in our everyday lives seem to have the ability to multitask; and for the most part it feels good to get the most "bang for your buck".  WE, as people, are more multitask-ed than ever, let alone our daily "products" and technology! Our cell phones alone can do as much as a trusty assistant could do in a 40-hour week, at the touch of a finger!

So why not make your skincare routine and makeup bag "multitask-ed"?? Skin care scientists and makeup companies are finding that consumers don't want one product for each skincare or makeup need, they want one product that can be used for a couple different solutions.

For example: Moisturizer that's also sunscreen? Can we say PERFECT SOLUTION?! Who wants to use (let alone pay for) a professional grade product (like Joya beauty's PCA Skin line) and then layer another coat of SPF on their face? Seems redundant and a waste of money to me! Airbrushing is the latest and greatest makeup application technique; many salons offer this service, but very few have the years of experience that I have... not to brag, but it's true!

I spent this past weekend in New York City attending the Temptu Pro Artists Airbrush Workshop for advanced airbrushing techniques. I tested new products, colors and refined my techniques. Up until last weekend, I mainly used airbrushing for foundation, blush and highlighter... but now, I've broadened my skills and learned techniques to create amazing eye designs, tint lashes dark and smoky as well as contouring and highlighting.

I'm excited to say that I've taken my skills to the next level by increasing my precision and speed and mastered color correction and blemish covering. I'm looking forward to utilizing my new found techniques and advanced skills on my brides this coming season!

My journey with Joanne began as a “Vendor” one. She contacted me and invited me over to see her studio in Dover. We talked and I was immediately drawn in by her amazing spirit, calming presence and knowledge of her product and service. Within a few weeks, I had made my first appointment, to “try out” the service for my brides. An hour later, SOLD! I started recommending her to all my brides without hesitation. However, while all of this has been happening, behind the scenes I was becoming a loyal client in my own right. For a few years, we just did routine care, I used all of her cleansing and maintenance products as well as her custom made make-up. We joked that if she didn’t give it to me, it didn’t touch my face! Then all of a sudden last year, I experienced a major breakout on my face. At the age of 30, I was experiencing terrible acne and feeling very much like a teenager, self-conscious, not at all the professional business owner that I am. I am so excited about the new techniques and products I picked up at The Makeup Show. Got to use them these past two weekends and I am truly impressed with the advanced formulas of these products. Just giving you another reason to hire a professional makeup artist for your special events. These eye creams are used for underwater photo shoots and an aquatic ballet troupe. They are beautiful and they absolutely do not budge. And..talk about perfect skin. The ladies looked like they stepped out of the pages of a fashion magazine ad that had been photo shopped yet they said they didn't feel like they were wearing anything on their face.
Hooray! Mission accomplished.

Ladies today want lightweight coverage...we are the no makeup makeup generation.
I use my air brush for almost every makeup application when photography or video is involved....from brides to head shots to editorial.
Why?

As a makeup artist I love doing creative work with award winning photographers. We take current trends, ideas, inspiration from movies etc. and re-create them for our own portfolios or to submit to magazines for ad campaigns. Many times we are given these same creative pieces or photos of celebrities by clients as examples of how they would like their makeup done for a special event or even their wedding.

This article from "Beauty Fool", a website I love, explains what really happens during a photo shoot.

I did the makeup for this photo during a creative makeup workshop with Jeff Dachowski. This lovely model is beautiful in real life and the placement of the makeup and color choices are key. However there are aspects of this photo that are enhanced with lighting and skilled photography.

Bringing photos to your makeup artist is a great idea for inspiration and to discuss color choices, makeup intensity and mood but remember...this is still a photo of YOU.

When I started Joya beauty Makeup and Skin Care Studio in Dover, NH I made it my goal to keep on top of the current techniques and products in my industry. I just returned from a week of makeup immersion in NYC. While there I collaborated with a leading makeup artist on her next book to be released next year, worked with models and photographers on a portfolio shoot as well as an up and coming fashion designer for his spring collection runway debut.

While this was all great fun and a wonderful experience, my favorite part of the week was working with the “everyday” women who will be featured in the book which is all about being 40+ and our ever changing beauty needs. I really feel that just because we choose to live in New Hampshire doesn’t mean the women of the Seacoast as well as women getting married on the Seacoast have to go to the “big city” to get quality beauty care.

Just a few amateur shots from The Artist Summit. I was invited to speak at an artist to artist educational conference along side a line up of celebrity makeup artists. It was quite an honor to be part of the event and of course I brought back lots of new tips, tricks and products for all of you.
My presentation topic was about conducting makeup lessons for our clients and was very well received. Every woman wants to feel like a star whether she wears a full face of makeup or just the perfect lip gloss.

When you are ready to dabble in some new colors here is a sneak preview into what is happening:

Fall is all about radiant skin…nothing overly powdered or shiny. The focus is still on perfect skin that looks fresh and has a sateen feel.

Gold is the metal color of choice applied to the eyes with a bold eyeliner that achieves a totally modern look.

There are two palettes this season…
The Bold, graphic look with lots of different textures - cream shadows that dry to a lovely wearable powder and then layered with accent powder shadow. Vintage dark plum shown as the color of the season with warm gold and peach tones are adventurous and for the risk takers. Jewel tones, metallics and shimmers - vibrant green mixed with a glistening metallic make those shorter days a bit more sparkly.
As a contrast the second palette is cool and neutral. It accentuates the Matte trend. Barely blushing the cheeks in soft pink and warm spice tones to create that flawless skin look. Very simply but with a smudge of the deep purple eyeliner is still very dramatic and smoldering.
